I know what it’s like to invest hard-earned money and passion in a headshot, hoping that it will advance a career as an actor. I’ve been a SAG member ever since I was cast in the first season of “Sex And The City”. I also spent 8 years as a fashion model in Europe and more than a decade here in NYC as a commercial print model. Today, my goal is to give you the quality shots that I expected when I was like you, the client.
Your headshot isn’t a passive experience, it’s a performance. Let’s go win that Oscar/Tony!
During our shoot, we collaborate together, something like a director and actor or scene partners. At times, we may use Meisner repetition exercises, or repeat famous lines from movies (“you talkin’ to me?”). It’s all to get loose, to generate real emotions and behavior, and get that twinkle in your eye.
Another approach is performing a monologue or singing a tune. While you are deep into the performance and I see a good moment, I will stop you, make any adjustments (eyes here, stop talking, smile, etc.) and snap a photo. This way you aren’t posing stiffly for a picture… but an actor, alive in the moment.
Think of our session together as if you have been cast in a big-budget film, and we’re just exploring various approaches to your character. So go ahead, take chances, lose your inhibitions, discover and enjoy. And know all along that nothing, absolutely nothing you do in front of my camera, can get you fired from this film. Why? Because the posters have already been printed with your face on them!
